Job Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is a federal agency under the U.S. Department of the Interior, responsible for managing public lands and resources across the United States. Job Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Ability to read and follow mobilization guides
  • No active real estate license or financial interest in firms with interest in Federal Land
  • Direct deposit required
  • Background investigation and suitability determination required
  • Must pass initial and random illegal drug testing
  • Willingness to work overtime and shifts during peak fire season
  • Completion of one-year probationary period may be required
  • Must meet qualification requirements by closing date
  • Ability to work under pressure in high-stress conditions
  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods and work varying shifts
  • Meet transfer requirements if seeking special firefighter retirement provisions

Job Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/GW-07 grade level for GW-08
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/GW-08 grade level for GW-09
  • Experience in logistics or initial attack fire dispatch with interagency coordination of suppression resources
  • Skills and knowledge of mobilization of personnel, aircraft, equipment, and supplies for wildland fire and emergency incidents
  • Experience reading, understanding, and following mobilization guides and documenting information
  • Two full years (36 semester hours) of graduate level education or master's degree in forestry, range management, agriculture, or related field may substitute for experience
  • Ability to perform work in office settings with periods of intense concentration and shift work during peak fire season
  • Volunteer experience relevant to the above may be credited

Job Duties

  • Serve as an aircraft logistics coordinator for the Great Basin Coordination Center
  • Analyze requests and determine best source of resources for efficient and cost-effective mobilization
  • Monitor daily fire situation in the Great Basin geographic area anticipating needs and identifying shortages of critical resources
  • Advise offices on applicability of aircraft types, capabilities, costs, and possible alternatives
  • Create, utilize, and maintain computer programs and files to facilitate the rapid flow of data and information
  • Maintain detailed records of suppression resource use for long-term planning
  • Update mobilization guides, statistical and year-end reports, and qualification system support
  • Serve on agency and interagency committees and attend meetings
