Job Requirements
- must be 18 years or older
- high school diploma or GED
- ability to use kitchen tools and equipment with proficiency
- effective communication skills in English
- able to perform basic math operations
- able to handle physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs
- able to stand and/or walk for long periods and work in changing temperature environments
- understanding of nutrition and portion control
- ability to meet deadlines and handle varying workloads
- safe food handling and sanitation certification may be required
- able to work nights and weekends as required
- successful completion of background and police records check
- comply with university health policies including tuberculosis testing
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- skills in using kitchen tools such as knives, slicers, potato peelers
- proficiency in safe, sanitary and effective handling of food and kitchen equipment
- basic math and computer skills
- ability to read and interpret routine written materials such as menus and instructions
- effective communication skills in English both oral and written
- understanding of nutrition and portion control
- ability to follow time and attendance guidelines
- ability to meet deadlines and handle varying workloads
- previous experience with food service operations preferred
- safe food handling and sanitation certification may be required
Job Duties
- wash dishes
- prepare, season, cook, fire and bake food according to standard recipes
- modify recipes and/or production amounts as needed
- ensure optimal quality of food throughout preparation and service
- prepare food items for individual serving following portion control standards
- determine food quantities and prepare estimates of time, labor and materials for assigned tasks
- assist with maintenance of inventory, food consumption and other food service records
- operate manual and/or automatic kitchen equipment such as ovens, dishwashers, grills, mixers, slicers
- handle operational readiness and safety of equipment and supplies
- adhere to university and Health Department quality standards
- advise supervisor concerning quantity and quality of food and supplies
- assist with ordering, planning, special events, cleaning, receiving and stocking
- assist with putting away food items and restaurant supplies from deliveries
- maintain standard food services equipment including grills, vent hoods and fryers
