Job Requirements

  • Six months of experience in food setup, service, and cleanup
  • or a combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to the above
  • possession of a valid ServeSafe certificate
  • ability to work in a custodial youth facility
  • ability to lift food containers up to 50 pounds
  • willingness to work weekends and holidays
  • willingness to wear a uniform
  • valid California Class C Driver's License may be required
  • pass a background investigation and polygraph examination
  • complete medical examination
  • submit legal right to work documentation
  • satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period

Job Qualifications

  • Six months of experience in food setup, service, and cleanup
  • possession of a valid ServeSafe certification
  • ability to provide direction and work well with youth
  • good judgment under pressure
  • understanding of kitchen sanitation and safe food storage
  • experience using cooking equipment and utensils
  • basic math skills
  • valid California Class C Driver's License may be required

Job Duties

  • Drive to jail or other locations to pick up prepared food for the Juvenile Justice Center
  • load and unload food containers and maintain appropriate food temperatures
  • prepare meal service including counting, portioning, and distributing food trays
  • check dietary requirements and set up dining area
  • clean dining room and kitchen areas including utensils, equipment, and floors
  • follow sanitation standards and security procedures including counting silverware and reporting youth movements
