Job Description
Roof Above is North Carolina's most comprehensive homeless service provider dedicated to ending homelessness in the community one life at a time. Formed in 2019 through the merger of the Urban Ministry Center and the Men's Shelter of Charlotte, Roof Above has established itself as a pivotal organization addressing homelessness. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- One or more years experience in hospitality, food services, or human service field
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Cook in a hospitality environment
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment, safe food handling, and safe transit practices
- Ability to prepare and transport meals
- Ability to safely operate agency vans
- Ability to effectively interact with diverse populations
- Clean driving record
- Possession of a North Carolina driver’s license
- Current Serve-Safe Certification or must obtain within six months of hire
- Reliable transportation to work
- Ability to lift 25-30 lbs
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One or more years experience in hospitality, food services, or human service field
- Prior experience working with homeless populations preferred
- Minimum of two years experience as a Cook in a hospitality environment
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment, safe food handling, and safe transit practices
- Skill in preparing and transporting meals, operating agency vans, and interacting with diverse populations
- Clean driving record
- North Carolina driver’s license
- Current Serve-Safe Certification or willingness to obtain within six months
Job Duties
- Follow established schedules in cooking, baking, sanitation, and related activities
- Use standard food preparation utensils and equipment
- Utilize food, ingredients and other consumables as determined by menus and estimated number of diners
- Apply consistent standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standard and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures
- Receive and organize all in-kind donations
- Clean and sanitize all food preparation equipment and report food preparation issues or equipment malfunctions to the Kitchen Manager and Culinary Lead
- Demonstrate a consistent effort to improve food preparation and provide quality customer service
