Job Requirements

  • physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • ability to remain on feet for long periods
  • ability to walk on hard, uneven, or slippery surfaces
  • occasional bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, stretching
  • must pass background/reference check including fingerprinting by Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation and FBI
  • must pass medical evaluation and drug screen
  • compliance with WDOC dress code policy including standards for facial hair, body art, and piercings/gauges
  • must be able to work weekends and night hours
  • non-exempt employment status
  • adherence to drug-free workplace policy
  • successful completion of safety and sanitation training documentation

Job Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of progressive work experience typically in food services with acquired knowledge at the level of a food services specialist
  • or bachelor’s degree typically in culinary arts with 0-2 years of progressive work experience in food services
  • knowledge of supervisory methods
  • knowledge of budget and procurement practices and policies
  • preference given to candidates with at least 2 years of supervisory experience, 2 years of food service experience, and 2 years of correctional institutional experience

Job Duties

  • Trains and supervises food service specialists to ensure large-scale food production on a given shift
  • schedules food service staff, and supervises and directs work of subordinate staff
  • assures compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations
  • assists with menu and recipe development
  • provides nutritious menus, diabetic diets, and other medical and religious diets as required
  • analyzes recipes/menus to meet USDA guidelines for nutrition
  • develops and maintains institutional food service policies and procedures
  • responsible for overall maintenance, security, sanitation, and cleanliness of the facility
  • responsible for safety and sanitation training of workers under their supervision and documentation of this training
  • responsible for timekeeping and refrigeration logs and sanitation records, as well as production schedules
  • manages inventory of food items and tools and reviews daily
  • ensures meals are delivered to housing units
  • may require the operation of the food truck
  • the work schedule may include weekends and night hours
