Job Description

The Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety through the responsible and humane management of offenders. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of progressive work experience typically in food services with knowledge at the level of a food services assistant OR Associate's Degree typically in Culinary Arts with 0-1 year of progressive work experience in food services
  • Ability to lift and grasp up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull regularly
  • Ability to type and perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to talk and hear frequently
  • Compliance with dress code policies
  • Successful completion of background check, medical evaluation, and drug testing
  • Willingness to work in a correctional environment

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of food safety practices, handling, and temperature control
  • Knowledge of basic employee supervision methods
  • Knowledge of meal preparation and quantity/quality controls
  • Knowledge of procurement, receiving, and storage methods
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws governing food preparation
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, and sanitation
  • Skill in written and oral communications
  • Experience in correctional food service is preferred

Job Duties

  • Directs, coordinates, prepares, and supervises food preparation for meals within guidelines of menu, dietary requirements, and standards of appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation
  • Trains workers in safety and sanitation
  • Directs preparation of all religious and medically necessary diets and substitutions
  • Directs portioning and serving of all meals
  • Oversees distribution of bulk food and pre-plated meals
  • Ensures health guidelines are met in daily preparation of food
  • Manages inventory and reviews daily on all items
  • Completes daily inventories of knives, controlled food items, and tools
  • Observes and records food, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures
  • Maintains a safe and secure facility
  • Provides a climate of mutual respect between staff and inmates
  • Participates in initiatives to promote a positive work environment
