Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Possess or obtain state-recognized food handling certification within 30 days
  • Attend required food program training within 60 days
  • Minimum one year of related experience
  • Ability to speak and understand English

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a state-recognized food handling certification or obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Attend training on the Child Care Food Program and Homeless Children Nutrition Program within 60 days and annually thereafter
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • At least one year of related experience
  • Completed degree(s) from accredited institution may substitute for experience
  • Two years of relevant cooking and kitchen experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes including salads fruits vegetables entrées and desserts
  • Ensure all food is of high quality and meets coalition standards
  • Follow recipes and cooking techniques to ensure consistency
  • Prepare simple components of each dish including chopping vegetables cutting meat and preparing sauces
  • Ensure all meals served to children meet nutritional requirements of the Homeless Children Nutrition Program
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen
  • Label and store all items in refrigerators and freezers with dates entered to ensure compliance with FIFO strategy
  • Stock inventory and supplies as needed
  • Unload and store deliveries safely
  • Collect all purchased food and nonfood receipts for data entry
  • Coordinate with kitchen techs to record food donations
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff and volunteers to serve meals on time
  • Give direction and guidance to meal groups and volunteers
  • Set up and stock preparation stations for meal service
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in prep and storage areas
  • Properly label and store leftovers
  • Support agency food and beverage requests for meetings and functions
  • Prepare dining and kitchen areas for next shift
  • Sweep and mop floors especially after spills
  • Assist other kitchen staff as needed
  • Report kitchen accidents or food safety violations
  • Clean kitchen machines and appliances
  • Dispose of trash and rinse garbage cans
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned
