Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- suitable for federal employment determined by background investigation
- willingness to undergo urinalysis testing for illegal drug use
- selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
- completion of online onboarding process including acceptable identification
- submission of complete application package with required documents
- ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 40 pounds and working in hot, humid kitchen environments
- willingness to work assigned shifts including 2 out of 3 weekends
- acceptance of a 1-year probationary period
- compliance with VA policies including annual influenza vaccination or approved exemption
- able to work full-time in Cincinnati, OH
- acceptance of supervisory responsibilities
- adherence to VA rules and regulations regarding employment
Job Qualifications
- Evidence of training or experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform food service supervisory duties
- experience with food production and service, food safety and sanitation practices
- ability to lead and supervise teams
- skills in inventory management and quality assurance
- ability to communicate effectively and manage employee performance
- understanding of dietary restrictions and modified diet tray assembly
- experience working in fast-paced kitchen or food service environments
- strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- demonstrated capacity to work in physically demanding conditions
- familiarity with federal employment standards and procedures
Job Duties
- Supervises all areas of food production and service including food preparation, nourishment, tray delivery and retrieval
- takes corrective action for any problems that might arise on the floors pertaining to food service
- receives and inspects deliveries and requisitions all supplies needed in all food service areas
- prepares performance ratings/competencies for all employees under their direct supervision
- discusses work performance and problems with employees, monitors tardiness and attendance, provides guidance and makes necessary adjustments in assignments when necessary
- carries out the responsibilities of the position within general instructions, standard procedures and established policies
- ensures subordinates complete the tasks to which they are assigned and explains work requirements to meet food service schedules
- establishes priorities for daily operations in the event of emergency situations
- defines the standards of quality and quantity to be met
- serves as a member of the in-service training team by providing individual and/or group instruction for employees
- provides guidance and assistance for lower-grade employees in making decisions when assembling patient trays and utilizing correct foods to be served on modified diets
- maintains inventory of food service supplies and equipment
- conducts quality assurance monitors and sanitation reviews
- supervises the delivery and retrieval of patient trays which includes interacting with members of the multidisciplinary team
- performs other related duties as assigned
