Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitability for federal employment determined by background investigation
- Selective services registration for males born after 12/31/1959
- Completion of online onboarding process including acceptable identification
- Ability to serve a one-year probationary period
- Meet all application requirements by closing date
- Compliance with federal work hours and experience criteria
- Willingness to work variable shifts between 5:00 am and 6:30 pm
- Physical ability to perform heavy work such as lifting up to 40 pounds and handling large utensils and equipment
- Commitment to annual influenza vaccination program or approved exemption
- Eligible for appointment under Direct-Hire Authority
- Candidate must not require relocation expenses reimbursement
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to food service supervision
- Experience supporting food production and service operations
- Ability to lead and instruct staff in proper food handling and sanitation procedures
- Experience with inventory management and supply requisition
- Competence in maintaining quality and quantity standards in food preparation
- Skill in conducting quality assurance and sanitation reviews
- Effective communication skills to interact with clinical and support personnel
- Experience in employee supervision and performance evaluation
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain operational standards in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to public service and adherence to federal employment requirements
Job Duties
- Supervises all areas of food production and service including food preparation, nourishment, tray delivery and retrieval, making rounds on patient wards, meeting ward personnel and taking corrective action for any issues related to food service
- Receives and inspects deliveries
- Requisitions all supplies needed for different food service areas
- Ensures efficient sanitation throughout Nutrition and Food Service
- Conducts menu conferences, completes schedules, cold prep sheets, temperature logs, and tray assembly area reports
- Monitors procedures in the Diet Communication Center
- Prepares performance ratings and competencies for employees under supervision
- Oversees employee work performance, discusses work issues and provides guidance
- Explains work requirements to ensure availability of food supply items for meal schedules
- Defines standards of quality and quantity, instructs staff on difficult work operations, reviews work for portion sizes and serving methods
- Provides instruction in sanitation and cleaning procedures
- Maintains inventory of food service supplies and equipment
- Supervises delivery and retrieval of patient trays and interacts with multidisciplinary team members
- Conducts quality assurance and sanitation reviews in accordance with established procedures
- Performs additional duties as assigned
