Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Evidence of training or experience to perform the duties of the position
  • knowledge and ability in dexterity and safety practices
  • ability to interpret instructions and specifications
  • capability to lead or supervise food service workers
  • familiarity with materials, technical practices, and the use and maintenance of tools and equipment
  • understanding of work practices relevant to food service
  • experience can include paid or unpaid roles including volunteer work
  • must be able to demonstrate skills and competencies with detailed descriptions in resume
  • applicants must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of announcement closing
  • no educational substitute for the position
  • experience subject to evaluation against OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards

Job Duties

  • Leads the activities of the production and service areas
  • leads food production activities in the absence of a supervisor or Food Production Manager
  • works alongside employees to demonstrate proper work methods and establish work pace
  • sets up assigned stations on the tray line with correct supplies and food items
  • serves food cafeteria style by placing uniform portions on plates
  • breaks down and cleans stations when assigned
  • sets up dining room tables for service and replenishes items
  • separates food waste and trash from dishes, glasses, and silverware
  • unloads food and tray delivery carts
  • stores sanitized dishes, glasses, and silverware
  • scrapes, soaks, scours, and scrubs cookware and utensils
  • moves garbage cans to disposal areas
  • assists cooks with food preparation including assembling, labeling, and arranging completed recipe items
  • uses computer terminals to record and retrieve recipe, menu, and inventory data
  • helps patients make meal selections using food service software
  • determines food items for common diets when only diet type is indicated
  • identifies discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu items using software
  • maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, and instructions
  • adheres to facility customer service standards and follows up on patient feedback in supervisor absence
  • provides on-the-job training and documents training provided
  • performs other duties as assigned
