Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Suitability for federal employment determined by background check
  • Negative drug test prior to appointment
  • Selective Service registration if applicable
  • Completion of online onboarding and pre-employment identification
  • Compliance with one-year probationary period
  • Ability to perform light to moderate physical effort including standing, walking, lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally lift over 40 pounds with assistance
  • Submission of required documents such as resume and supporting evidence
  • Compliance with VA policies including influenza vaccination or exemption

  • Demonstrated ability to lead or provide first-level supervision
  • Experience in communicating work instructions and information
  • Experience in reviewing and adjusting work assignments
  • Ability to oversee work progress and ensure compliance with instructions
  • Knowledge of dexterity and safety in food service
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications
  • Knowledge of materials, technical practices, and equipment use
  • Understanding of work practices in food service
  • Experience in a food service production or related environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with staff and management

Job Duties

  • Communicates instructions and information about work tasks to other employees
  • Communicates with supervisors and managers about problems and events and participates in problem resolution
  • Leads production and service activities
  • Leads food production activities in the absence of a supervisor or manager
  • Provides on-the-job training and documents training for lower graded food service workers
  • Completes safety and sanitation inspection checklists and initiates corrective action
  • Reviews daily work assignments and adjusts tasks and sequence as necessary
  • Assigns tasks to employees
  • Checks work in progress to ensure compliance with quality and procedures
  • Ensures proper food handling techniques and personal hygiene
  • Sets up and breaks down assigned stations
  • Sets up dining room tables and replenishes food and beverages
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet medical center needs
