Job Requirements
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a food safety certification within the first six months of employment
- Twelve months of experience in food service work required
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check
- Pre-employment drug screening required
- Registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) required
- Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy required
- Flexibility in work hours and ability to work overtime
- Valid Texas driver license required if necessary for driving a state vehicle
- Eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy
Job Qualifications
- Twelve months of experience in food service work
- Knowledge of food preparation methods
- Knowledge of food storage standards and sanitation regulations
- Ability to operate and sanitize food service equipment
- Ability to prepare and serve food
- Ability to clean dining and food preparation areas
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to speak and read English
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to complete basic math used in cooking and preparation
- Food safety certification (ServSafe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) required within six months
- Valid Texas driver license if required to drive a state vehicle
Job Duties
- Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work specific or rotating shift schedules
- Assists in the preparation and portioning of food for special diets
- Prepares scheduled snacks and supplements and maintains supply of snack items
- Participates in the distribution and serving of food according to food service policies
- Follows food handling, sanitation and safety procedures in compliance with HACCP and state regulations
- Receives delivery of food and supplies and prepares necessary paperwork
- Cleans kitchen, stock room, food preparation areas, dishes, utensils, and equipment according to sanitation standards
- Trains or assists in training new kitchen employees
- Participates in disaster response and COOP activities as needed
