Job Requirements

  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a food safety certification within the first six months of employment
  • Twelve months of experience in food service work required
  • Must pass fingerprint criminal background check
  • Pre-employment drug screening required
  • Registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) required
  • Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility
  • Compliance with HHSC immunization policy required
  • Flexibility in work hours and ability to work overtime
  • Valid Texas driver license required if necessary for driving a state vehicle
  • Eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy

Job Qualifications

  • Twelve months of experience in food service work
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods
  • Knowledge of food storage standards and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to operate and sanitize food service equipment
  • Ability to prepare and serve food
  • Ability to clean dining and food preparation areas
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to speak and read English
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to complete basic math used in cooking and preparation
  • Food safety certification (ServSafe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) required within six months
  • Valid Texas driver license if required to drive a state vehicle

Job Duties

  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work specific or rotating shift schedules
  • Assists in the preparation and portioning of food for special diets
  • Prepares scheduled snacks and supplements and maintains supply of snack items
  • Participates in the distribution and serving of food according to food service policies
  • Follows food handling, sanitation and safety procedures in compliance with HACCP and state regulations
  • Receives delivery of food and supplies and prepares necessary paperwork
  • Cleans kitchen, stock room, food preparation areas, dishes, utensils, and equipment according to sanitation standards
  • Trains or assists in training new kitchen employees
  • Participates in disaster response and COOP activities as needed
