Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • One year of experience in food service work
  • Pass fingerprint criminal background check
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Pass registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and LEIE
  • Male applicants between 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • Must comply with HHSC immunization policy
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including possible overtime and extended shifts
  • If driving, must have or obtain a valid Texas driver license within 90 days
  • Excellent attendance record

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One year of experience in food service work required
  • Ability to operate and sanitize food service equipment
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to speak and read English
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a food safety certification (ServSafe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) within six months of employment
  • Valid Texas driver license required if driving is necessary

Job Duties

  • Attend work on a regular basis and work assigned shifts including rotating and extended hours as needed
  • Assist in the preparation and portioning of food for special diets following food service procedures
  • Prepare scheduled snacks and supplements and maintain stock of snack items
  • Participate in distribution of food safely and according to policies
  • Assist in serving food following proper food service procedures
  • Follow proper food handling in accordance with state, federal and HACCP guidelines
  • Receive food and supply deliveries and prepare necessary paperwork timely
  • Maintain sanitation and storage procedures for dishes, equipment, and food preparation areas
  • Observe safety procedures and practices
  • Train or assist in training new kitchen employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned including support during disaster response and COOP activation
