Job Requirements

  • Paid or unpaid experience in food service work
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
  • Some work experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct
  • Males aged 18 - 25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, extended and unusual hours
  • All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Ability to work in hot or cold conditions
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions

Job Qualifications

  • Paid or unpaid experience in food service work
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
  • Some work experience
  • Preferred 6 months experience in food service work
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods, food storage standards, and sanitation regulations
  • Skill in operating and sanitizing food service equipment
  • Ability to prepare and serve food according to standards
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to perform basic math in cooking and preparation
  • Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in various temperature conditions for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to work harmoniously and productively with coworkers and residents

Job Duties

  • Attend work on a regular basis and work specific or rotating shift schedules including extended shifts and overtime as needed
  • Complete required training per policy
  • Assist in the preparation and portioning of food for special diets following food service procedures
  • Prepare scheduled snacks and maintain supply of snack items
  • Participate in the safe and sanitary distribution of food according to food service policies
  • Assist in serving food by following food service procedures
  • Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures in accordance with state, federal and HACCP guidelines
  • Receive food and supply deliveries and prepare necessary paperwork timely and correctly
  • Sanitize dishes, utensils, and food service equipment and maintain cleanliness of kitchen and food preparation areas
  • Observe safety procedures and practices
  • Train or assist in training new food service employees
  • Participate in disaster response and continuity of operations plan activations as required
  • Work weekends and holidays as scheduled
