Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Pass fingerprint criminal background check
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Pass registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS) and Employee Misconduct
  • Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays
  • Flexibility to work overtime and/or extended hours
  • Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds
  • Ability to follow food safety and kitchen sanitation procedures
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Commitment to work in hot and/or cold environments
  • Ability to operate a state vehicle if required
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Complete required training as per policy

Job Qualifications

  • Paid or unpaid experience in food service work
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
  • Some work experience
  • Preferred 6 months experience in food service work
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to work in hot and cold conditions
  • Ability to stand and walk on hard floors for extended periods
  • Ability to speak and read English
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and residents
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
  • Skill in operating and sanitizing food service equipment
  • Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days preferred

Job Duties

  • Attends work on a regular basis and adheres to assigned shift schedules including weekends and holidays
  • Completes required training per agency policy
  • Assists in preparation and portioning of food for special diets following food service procedures
  • Prepares scheduled snacks and maintains snack supply
  • Distributes and serves food safely and sanitarily per food service policies
  • Follows proper food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures in compliance with federal, state, and HACCP guidelines
  • Receives deliveries of food and supplies, and prepares necessary paperwork timely and accurately
  • Cleans kitchen, stock room, food preparation, and serving areas according to sanitation standards
  • Trains or assists in training new food service workers to ensure knowledgeable staff
  • Participates in agency disaster response or COOP activation as assigned
  • May operate state vehicle to deliver food to homes
