Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in food service or healthcare setting preferred
  • ability to communicate effectively in English
  • strong attention to detail
  • flexibility to work part-time evening shifts including holidays and weekends
  • physical ability to move food service trucks
  • willingness to learn and adapt
  • ability to engage positively with patients and staff

Job Duties

  • Collects the final tray list for assigned patient units from communication center clerk for each meal
  • checks meal delivery trucks for supplies or condiments
  • serves meals to patients in a professional, efficient manner and checks patient’s wristband for identification
  • visits new admissions or changed diets to explain room service meal process and provide menu
  • visits diabetic patients to assure meals ordered and delivered as per medication policy
  • assesses patient’s ability to utilize room service and follows up with nurse or dietitian if unable to participate
  • assists patients in ordering meals when requested and collects pre-select meal sheets for processing
  • collects dirty trays from patient rooms and returns trucks to dish room after meals
  • processes diet requisitions retrieved from nursing stations
  • delivers between meal nourishments to patients
  • mediates patient concerns regarding meal service
  • acts as a liaison between food and nutrition department, the patient, and nursing staff
  • takes ownership of problems and ensures positive outcomes
  • assists supervisor in portioning food, coffee, or silverware
  • serves as a quality assurance control point for the room service program
  • checks off patient’s name on tray list upon delivery and records time
  • performs other duties as assigned
  • works every other weekend
  • accommodates variable shifts and provides reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities
