Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in food service preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Physical ability to lift 40 pounds regularly
  • Capability to operate food service equipment safely
  • Valid California driver license
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 6 hours per day
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Willingness to perform cashier and record keeping tasks

  • Understanding of nutrition information for recipe and menu substitutions
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation rules
  • Ability to communicate verbally in Spanish

Job Duties

  • Prepare food by performing tasks such as slicing meat, baking breads, making desserts, portioning and packaging prepared food
  • Serve food during breakfast, lunch and snack periods and clean kitchen after each serving period
  • Operate food service equipment including slicer, mixer, tilt skillet, fryer, convection oven, range, warmer, refrigerator, freezer and others
  • Perform cashiering tasks such as taking money and lunch cards from students, checking names off roster, and compiling daily bank deposits
  • Maintain and compile records such as production worksheets, student charges, student rosters, and daily participation reports
  • Retrieve information from computer terminal
  • Drive district vehicles and be responsible for pack-out, delivery and serving to food service facilities
  • Direct co-workers in specific tasks and maintain safety and sanitation standards
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Receive food and supplies and store foods in walk-in refrigerators and freezers
  • Assist in training substitute food service workers
  • Maintain proper care of equipment
  • Assume duties of unit leader in their absence
  • Perform other duties as required
