Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Physical capability to lift, bend, push, kneel and walk during shift
  • Willingness to adhere to facility policies and uniform standards
  • Ability to work flexible schedules

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling and sanitation regulations
  • Experience working in institutional or restaurant food service is preferred
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to train and instruct others
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Dependable and flexible with strong work ethic

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and or team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to planned menu, recipes, and work instructions in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules according to department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare and serve food according to recipes and portion control
  • Follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area and environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Keep up with garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean from excess food and trash
  • Ensure kitchen is kept clean and environment is ready for food prep and serving including sweeping, mopping and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Stand and be on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
