Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination
  • Selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Completion of online onboarding process and submission of acceptable identification
  • Agreement to serve a 1-year probationary period
  • Compliance with all application and document requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and lift heavy objects
  • Willingness to work assigned shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Evidence of training or experience related to food service
  • Ability to follow established procedures and work sequences
  • Knowledge of food portioning and diet requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret menus, diet cards, and tray tickets
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing
  • Capability to work under supervision
  • Experience in food preparation and service
  • Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and cleaning practices

Job Duties

  • Sets up and breaks down assigned station with correct supplies and food items
  • Portions food items into standard serving sizes using proper utensils and specified dishware
  • Selects and places correct items on patient trays
  • Decides what food items to serve for the most common diets
  • Identifies discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu food items
  • Sets up dining room tables for service and replenishes items as necessary
  • Delivers meal trays to patients and reports comments and complaints to supervisor or dietitian
  • Assists cooks in food preparation by weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients
  • Prepares fresh fruits, cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts
  • Reads and interprets menus, diet cards, tray tickets or patient selections
  • Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks in food service areas
