Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • suitability for federal employment determined by background investigation
  • pre-placement medical examination required
  • selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • completion of online onboarding and submission of acceptable identification
  • completion of all application requirements including submitting a detailed resume
  • willingness to serve a one-year probationary period
  • physical ability to perform light to moderate work including standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting objects up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally over 40 pounds with assistance
  • work schedule availability Monday-Sunday with rotating weekends
  • compliance with annual influenza vaccination or approved exemption
  • commitment to public service and federal employment ideals
  • ability to use the USAJOBS system for application submission

Job Qualifications

  • Previous cooking experience preferred
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred

  • evidence of training or experience demonstrating ability to perform food service duties

Job Duties

  • Cleans serving areas by sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces, and cleaning food service equipment such as refrigerators, toaster, and coffee machines
  • cleans production equipment including steam jacketed kettles and tilt skillets using safe sanitation techniques
  • loads and operates dishwashers and cart washing stations
  • performs necessary preventative maintenance on kitchen equipment
  • transports tray carts to wards and delivers trays directly to patients at bedside or assists patients with meal tray transport
  • sets up serving areas with hot and cold foods, keeping food appropriately stocked during meal service
  • identifies discrepancies between prescribed diets or food allergies and items on tray tickets
  • assembles items in cold food preparation and nourishment areas
  • makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients
  • performs other duties as assigned
