Job Description

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) Food and Nutrition Services is actively seeking experienced full-time Food Service Workers to join their dedicated team. CHKD is a reputable pediatric hospital committed to providing comprehensive healthcare services for children. Job Requirements

  • Current City of Norfolk food handling training required at time of hire
  • record of completion for all education, licenses, training, and/or certifications at time of hire
  • flexible availability to rotate between AM and PM shifts including weekends
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • ability to work in a noisy, distracting kitchen environment and handle temperature variances
  • able to lift and carry food service equipment as needed
  • pass increased security clearance for Children’s Pavilion roles including FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and child protective services registry search
  • compliance with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Current City of Norfolk food handling training
  • record of completion for all education, licenses, training, and certifications at time of hire
  • high school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • prior food service experience preferred
  • excellent time management skills

Job Duties

  • Maintain a courteous, professional relationship with all staff, patients, families, and guests
  • set up and dismantle assigned workstations such as hot food, cold food area, salad bar, and coffee station
  • stock and dismantle condiment areas, replenish paper and china supplies, fill beverage machines, and brew coffee
  • set up, operate, clean, and dismantle dish machine
  • maintain merchandising in-service areas and replenish vending machines
  • store food in designated areas following food safety and rotation procedures
  • perform continuous cleanup of work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • work on serving line, in the dish room, scrapping trays, loading and unloading dish machine, and sorting silverware when necessary
  • clean tables, counters, and various kitchen equipment and sweep and mop floors
  • assist with catering events when necessary
  • handle waste disposal and transport to appropriate disposal areas
  • conduct work adhering to HACCP guidelines and departmental sanitation procedures
  • comply with OSHA regulations and other relevant local, state, and federal laws
  • recognize and adopt activities appropriate to specific guest needs
  • adhere to all company policies, standards of operation, and employee handbook
  • sustain records and documentation for regulatory compliance
  • perform any position within the department with proper instruction and training as assigned
  • perform all other duties as assigned
