Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
  • Subject to urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment
  • Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Completion of online onboarding and pre-employment identification verification
  • Completion of all application requirements
  • Commitment to serve a 1-year probationary period evaluating fitness and performance
  • Ability to perform light to moderate physical work and heavy cleaning tasks
  • Willingness to work assigned schedules including weekends
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend frequently
  • Capability to lift or move objects up to 20 pounds unassisted and heavier with assistance
  • Compliance with health and safety standards in kitchen environments

  • Evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties
  • Knowledge and ability in dexterity and safety
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications
  • Familiarity with materials and technical practices in food service
  • Skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment

  • Adherence to proper work practices

Job Duties

  • Sets up and breaks down assigned station with the correct supplies and food items
  • Portions food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and specified dishware
  • Decides what food items to serve for common diets when the diet card or tray ticket identifies only the kind of diet called for
  • Provides patients with basic information about modified diets and available nutrition services
  • Identifies obvious discrepancies between prescribed diets and food items designated by the menu
  • Assembles, measures, weighs, or mixes ingredients for basic formulas and supplemental feedings following standardized recipes and sanitary techniques
  • Delivers meal trays to patients' bedsides and reports their comments and complaints
  • Assists cooks by assembling, labeling, and arranging prepared recipe items
  • Prepares fresh fruit, cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, cold sandwiches, simple cold desserts, and supplementary foods and beverages
  • Performs final checks of diet trays for completeness and correct food temperatures
  • Works in various kitchen areas including food preparation, dishwashing, storage, receiving, and serving line
  • Conducts heavy-duty cleaning tasks in food service areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned
