Job Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
  • Pass urinalysis drug screening
  • Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Complete online onboarding and provide acceptable forms of identification
  • Fulfill all application and documentation requirements
  • Serve a 1-year probationary period
  • Commitment to public service and upholding U.S. Constitution
  • Ability to perform physical duties including lifting up to 40 pounds with assistance
  • Work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to perform duties with attention to safety and instructions
  • Experience in food handling or preparation is beneficial
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and diet requirements
  • Capability to use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good physical stamina to meet position demands
  • Clear and detailed resume evidencing relevant skills and experience

Job Duties

  • Set up and break down assigned stations with the correct supplies and food items
  • Portion food items into standard serving sizes using proper utensils and specified dishware
  • Select and place correct items on patient trays
  • Decide what food items to serve for the most common diets
  • Identify discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu items
  • Set up dining room tables for service and replenish items as necessary
  • Deliver meal trays to patients’ bedsides and report comments or complaints to supervisors
  • Assist cooks in weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients according to recipes
  • Prepare fresh fruit, cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, and simple cold desserts
  • Read and interpret menus, diet cards, tray tickets, or patient selections
  • Perform heavy-duty cleaning throughout food service and related areas
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed
