Job Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Ability to work in a correctional facility environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Ability to supervise and train team members
  • Knowledge of food handling regulations
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills
  • Physical stamina to perform job duties

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food preparation and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of food according to menu and recipes
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules and follow department policies
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food
  • Follow all food safety regulations related to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking equipment, and serving tools
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean
  • Prepare the kitchen environment for food service including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for food service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Perform physical duties such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Be on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
