Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to stand and be on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Physical capability to perform lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling and walking
  • Availability to work open shifts
  • Pass background checks and comply with facility policies
  • Commitment to follow all food safety and sanitation regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of food handling regulations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly
  • Dependable and flexible work ethic

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to the planned menu, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure that all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules and according to department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils/equipment to cook, prepare and serve food according to recipes
  • Follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area/environment including cleaning of refrigerators/freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Keep up with garbage collection and ensure kitchen floors are clean
  • Ensure kitchen is kept clean and ready for food prep/serving including sweeping, mopping and dishwashing
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
