Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- Subject to urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment
- Selective Services Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Complete online onboarding process with acceptable identification
- Serve a 1-year probationary period
- Comply with COVID-19 vaccination or exemption policies
- Ability to perform physical work including lifting up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally more than 40 pounds with assistance
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and off days
- Ability to stand and walk continuously and perform tasks requiring stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending
Job Qualifications
- Experience or training in food service or related field demonstrating ability to perform job duties
- Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and instructions
- Dexterity and safety in handling kitchen equipment and tools
- Ability to work without more than normal supervision
- Understanding of work practices and technical procedures in food service
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and safety standards in food service areas
Job Duties
- Clean serving areas by sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces and food service equipment such as refrigerators, toasters, and coffee machines
- Identify discrepancies between prescribed diets and food items designated by the menu
- Set up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables and replenish items as necessary
- Clean production equipment including steam jacketed kettles and tilt skillets using safe sanitation techniques
- Load and operate dishwashers and cart washing station
- Perform necessary preventative maintenance on equipment
- Transport tray carts to wards and deliver trays directly to patients' bedside or assist patients with transport of meal trays
- Serve food cafeteria style by placing uniform portions on customers/patients/residents’ plates
- Prepare fresh fruit, cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts in specified quantities
- Assist cooks in food preparation by weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes
- Understand food terminology, measurements and serving information in standardized recipes and menus
- Operate, break down and clean all equipment assigned to food service and related areas
- Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas
- Set up serving areas with hot and cold foods, keeping foods appropriately stocked during meal service
- Assemble various items while working in cold food preparation and nourishment area
- Make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients
- Perform other duties as assigned
