Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Ability to work in a correctional facility environment
  • Physically able to perform tasks including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Compliance with all food safety regulations
  • Dependability and flexibility
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to supervise and manage inmate labor and team members

Job Qualifications

  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Passionate about food and service
  • Solid understanding of food handling regulations

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members during food preparation and service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and team members in food preparation according to menus and work instructions
  • Ensure proper and sanitary food storage
  • Serve food during scheduled meal times following department policies
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment properly to cook, prepare, and serve food
  • Follow all food safety regulations related to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean kitchen area including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Enforce facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean
  • Ensure kitchen is ready for food preparation and serving by sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper food portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, standing for long periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
