Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to work in a correctional facility environment
  • Prior food service experience preferred
  • Ability to supervise and instruct others
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the job including standing for extended periods and lifting
  • Dependable and flexible
  • Pass background and security checks as required for the facility
  • Willingness to comply with facility policies including uniform and safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of food handling and safety regulations
  • Ability to supervise and train others

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food preparation and service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and team members in the preparation of quality foods according to the planned menu and work instructions
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules following department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes and nutritional needs
  • Follow all food safety regulations related to sanitation, food handling and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area and environment including cleaning of refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Enforce facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean from excess food and trash
  • Ensure kitchen is clean and environment is prepared for food prep and serving including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Be able to stand for most of the scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
