Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitability for federal employment as determined by background investigation
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination
- Selective Services registration for males born after 12/31/1959
- Completion of online onboarding process and presentation of acceptable identification
- Completion of all application requirements
- Commitment to 1-year probationary period
- Ability to continuously stand and walk
- Ability to frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend
- Ability to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Willingness to perform heavy cleaning duties
- Ability to work shifts as assigned including variable hours, weekends, and holidays
- No education substitution allowed
Job Qualifications
- Evidence of training or experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position
- Experience performing food preparation duties in a healthcare facility, hotel, college cafeteria, military base, or similar quantity food service institution
- Knowledge of regular and modified diets
- Ability to read and understand diet cards
- Understanding of food terminology, measurements, and serving information in standardized recipes
- Ability to perform duties with dexterity and safety
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications other than blueprint reading
- Experience with materials and technical practices relevant to food service
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
- Capability to work without more than normal supervision
- Knowledge of good work practices
Job Duties
- Sets up and breaks down assigned station with the correct supplies and food items
- Portions food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and specified dishware
- Selects and places correct items on patient trays
- Decides what food items to serve for the most common diets
- Identifies obvious discrepancies between the prescribed diets and the food items designated by the menu
- Sets up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables, and replenish items as necessary
- Delivers meal trays to the patients' bedsides, reporting the patients' comments and complaints to the supervisor or dietitian
- Provides assistance to cooks in the food preparation area, such as weigh, measure and assemble ingredients according to standardized recipes
- Prepares fresh fruit/cold salads/dressings/sandwich fillings and cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts
- Reads and interprets regular or modified menus, individual diet cards, tray tickets or patient selections
- Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas
- Performing other duties as assigned
