Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to stand and be on feet for extended periods
  • Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, and walking
  • Willingness to work inside a correctional facility
  • Ability to follow strict food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Dependable and flexible schedule
  • Strong work ethic
  • Pass background and drug screening

Job Qualifications

  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Ability to train, supervise and motivate team members
  • Knowledge of food handling regulations and safety standards

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to menu, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure that all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules according to department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare and serve food according to recipes
  • Follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area/environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking equipment and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Keep up with garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean from excess food/trash
  • Ensure kitchen readiness for food prep/serving including sweeping, mopping and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for other employees/inmates
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
