Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Food Handlers Certification for the State of Texas
  • Certified through Texas Association for School Nutrition preferred
  • Minimum six hours of annual training for School Nutrition Programs
  • Experience in institutional food service operations, preferably K-12 food service
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipes and production records
  • Ability to perform basic math operations for recipe conversions
  • Adherence to federal, state and local policies and regulations
  • Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment
  • Ability to maintain high standards of sanitation, safety and cleanliness
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in varying temperature and humidity conditions
  • Ability to follow proper hygiene and use of sanitizing chemicals

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Food Handlers Certification for the State of Texas
  • Certified through Texas Association for School Nutrition (TASN) preferred
  • Meets or exceeds minimum six hours of annual training for School Nutrition Programs
  • Able to read, understand and follow production records and recipes
  • Basic math skills to convert recipes and handle measurements
  • Adheres to classified employee work rules and uniform standards
  • Experience in institutional food service operations, preferably K-12 food service
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of HACCP sanitation and safety practices
  • Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment
  • Basic computer literacy for work email and timekeeping

Job Duties

  • Assist in preparation, service and clean up of food to meet menu requirements and regulations
  • Maintain high standards in food production, sanitation and safety practices
  • Support department with regular attendance and punctuality
  • Maintain an organized and clean workspace
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, ovens and steamers safely and properly
  • Follow HACCP sanitation and safety practices including proper cleaning and food storage
  • Document food temperatures and storage times
  • Prepare meal components in correct quantities and ensure compliance with USDA and TDA regulations
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting and storing products using FIFO method
  • Attend staff meetings and follow communication from CND administration
  • Support money management processes as applicable
  • Adhere to all employee work rules, handbooks and departmental policies
  • Report equipment in need of repair
  • Maintain knowledge of computer processes for work email and attendance systems
  • Maintain a safe work environment through correction and reporting
