Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Ability to supervise inmate labor and team members
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Capability to stand and be active for prolonged periods
  • Physical ability to perform lifting, bending, and other kitchen duties
  • Dependability and flexibility in work schedule
  • Compliance with facility uniform policy

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food preparation and service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and team members in food preparation according to menus and recipes
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during scheduled meal times following department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes
  • Follow food safety regulations related to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work environment including refrigerators, cooking equipment, and service areas
  • Follow facility uniform policies
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness by sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portioning and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Complete other related duties as assigned
