Job Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check including Live Scan prior to employment
  • Successful completion of a pre-placement physical examination
  • Pass a reading comprehension test
  • Ability to work variable hours including nights and weekends
  • Commitment to uphold UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services standards and policies

Job Qualifications

  • Six to twelve months of experience in food preparation and general kitchen or dining area maintenance or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, understand, and speak English at a level sufficient to perform job duties
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with guests, team members, and management
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Capacity to perform well under fluctuating workload conditions
  • Basic math skills including addition and subtraction of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions
  • Knowledge of measuring food ingredients accurately according to recipes
  • Proficiency in operating various kitchen equipment
  • Understanding and application of sanitation and safety rules in a food service environment

Job Duties

  • Prepare and maintain food items in kitchen or dining area following established recipes and standards
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, food processors, and slicers safely and effectively
  • Measure dry and liquid food ingredients accurately to meet recipe and production requirements
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety procedures in food production, storage, and service
  • Interact positively and effectively with guests, team members, and management using strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to handle fluctuating workloads and high-volume service periods
  • Maintain cleanliness and general maintenance of kitchen and dining areas to meet health standards
