Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Capacity to perform physical activities such as lifting and bending
  • Willingness to work in a correctional facility environment
  • Dependable and flexible
  • Good communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to supervise and train team members
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good physical stamina to handle the physical demands of the role

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members during food prep and service shifts
  • Prepare and instruct in food preparation according to menus and recipes
  • Ensure proper and sanitary food storage
  • Serve food during scheduled meal times following department policies
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook and serve food accurately
  • Follow all food safety regulations regarding sanitation, handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and kitchen equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean
  • Ensure kitchen is ready for food preparation and serving including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
