Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
  • Successful completion of urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment
  • Selective Services registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Completion of online onboarding process with acceptable identification
  • Commitment to serve a 1-year probationary period
  • Ability to work in hot, humid kitchen environment
  • Capability to perform light to moderate physical work, including lifting objects up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally more than 40 pounds with assistance
  • Continuous standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending
  • Compliance with seasonal influenza vaccination or exemption requirements
  • Adherence to Fair Chance to Compete Act provisions
  • Submission of all required application documents
  • Understanding of the direct-hire authority hiring process

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and ability to perform food service tasks
  • Experience or training in food service operations
  • Capability to work under minimal supervision
  • Understanding of safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications related to food service
  • Experience in operating and maintaining kitchen equipment
  • Ability to perform physical tasks involved in food service work
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Cleans serving areas by sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning/sanitizing work surfaces, and other food service equipment such as refrigerators, toaster, and coffee machines
  • Cleans production equipment including steam jacketed kettles, tilt skillets, etc. using appropriate and safe sanitation techniques
  • Loads and operates dishwashers and cart washing station
  • Performs necessary preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Transports tray carts to wards and individually delivers trays directly to the patient's bedside or assists patients with transport of their meal trays
  • Sets-up serving areas with hot and cold foods, keeping foods appropriately stocked during meal service
  • Identifies discrepancies between the prescribed diet and/or listed food allergies and the food items listed on the tray ticket
  • Assembles a variety of items while working in cold food preparation and nourishment area
  • Make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients
  • Performing other duties as assigned
