Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Availability to work some weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand and be on feet for extended periods
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, and kneeling
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Ability to follow facility policies including uniform requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation standards
  • Ability to lead and supervise a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing environments
  • Dependable and flexible work approach

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmates and team members in food preparation according to menus, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules following department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes and nutritional guidelines
  • Follow all food safety regulations related to sanitation, handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain clean work areas including refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors free from excess food and trash
  • Keep kitchen environment clean and ready for food prep and serving including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Be able to stand on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
