Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior knowledge of early childhood nutrition required
- Ability to adhere to health and sanitation regulations
- Strong ethical background in food preparation and child interaction
- Good communication skills
- Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work in kitchen environment exposed to heat, cold, and potential allergens
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and food safety standards

Job Duties
- Serve vended meals that are nutritious and take into consideration children’s various cultures and individual nutritional needs
- Understand and use child nutritional needs and age-specific portion sizes to prepare meals in accordance with USDA guidelines
- Understand and strictly adhere to health, safety, food handling, and sanitation requirements before, during and after meal preparation
- Follow menu guidelines and adjust when necessary due to availability of menu items or individual child’s needs
- Prepare and serve family-style meals for children, volunteers, and staff, ensuring delivery to each classroom
- Ensure food is received at proper temperature and correct amounts ordered
- File delivery food forms from SDC into the Master Binder
- Test and verify temperature of cooked food transported to ensure holding temperature of 140 F or above for hot food and below 40 F for cold food
- Maintain safety of environment for staff and children by storing food and supplies properly
- Perform physical inventory of equipment and supplies
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen at all times
- Maintain awareness of center allergies and ensure correct substitutions for children with documented food allergies
- Wash and store dishes
- Clean and sanitize food transport carrier daily
- Complete cleaning checklists and file in Master Binder
- Ensure disposal of garbage each school day
- Maintain Food Services Master Binder and provide updated reports to Food Services Coordinator
- Document all menu substitutions in Master Binder
- Keep daily temperature logs of all equipment and food, file monthly
- Fill out Food Substitution Log for special diet substitutions
- File SDC Attendance and Weekly Work Sheet into Master Binder
- Provide courteous and prompt service to internal and external clients
- Prioritize and address requests professionally to ensure client confidentiality
- Recommend methods to improve service, work processes, and financial performance
- Assist coworkers to ensure continuity of service
- Orient new coworkers and support teamwork
- Perform other duties as required
