Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to supervise inmate labor and team members
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation
  • Physical ability to handle lifting, bending, walking, and standing for long periods
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Dependability and flexibility
  • Willingness to work early morning shifts including weekends

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Passionate about food and service
  • Solid understanding of food handling regulations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly
  • Dependable and flexible
  • Ability to stand for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to planned menus, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules following department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils/equipment to cook, prepare and serve food according to recipes
  • Follow all food safety regulations relating to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Keep up with garbage collection and kitchen floor cleanliness
  • Ensure kitchen is ready for food prep/serving including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portions and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, standing for extended periods
  • Be on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
