Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Ability to work inside a correctional facility
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, push, kneel, and perform kitchen duties
  • Must comply with facility uniform and safety policies
  • Pass background and drug screening as required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Strong understanding of food handling regulations
  • Ability to multitask and adapt quickly
  • Dependable and flexible
  • Good communication and leadership skills

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to planned menu, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure that all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules following department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes and nutritional needs
  • Follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area/environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking, and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Keep up with garbage collection and kitchen floor cleanliness
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical duties such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
