Job Requirements

  • certificate from an accredited college, technical or vocational school in a relevant field
  • one year of lead level food preparation experience in a custodial or residential institution
  • willingness to work with the resident population of a correctional facility
  • adherence to institutional statutes, rules, policies, and procedures
  • ability to supervise and ensure security of inmates
  • submission of resume, three professional references, and last three performance evaluations for interview
  • legal right to work in the United States
  • ability to pass criminal history check and fingerprinting
  • understanding of PREA standards
  • security clearance by Department of Public Safety
  • compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act
  • strong problem solving skills
  • flexibility to adapt to change and new information

Job Qualifications

  • certificate from an accredited college, technical or vocational school in professional cooking, food service/dietary management, food technology, culinary arts, food science/nutrition, dietetics, or chef's training
  • one year of lead level experience in food preparation in a custodial/residential institution
  • experience as a food service lead with the State of Alaska or equivalent
  • knowledge of nutrition and menu planning
  • skills in staff scheduling
  • expertise in food safety and handling
  • experience with purchasing and inventory management

Job Duties

  • oversee all food service operations at the Anchorage Correctional Complex
  • ensure safe, efficient, and compliant preparation and delivery of meals
  • manage budgeting, menu planning, and food production
  • enforce sanitation, safety, and security standards
  • oversee staff training and scheduling
  • manage inventory, ordering, and supplies
  • provide supervision and technical guidance to staff cooks
