Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work in correctional facility environment
  • Physically capable of performing duties including standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and walking
  • Willingness to adhere to facility uniform and safety policies
  • Commitment to maintaining a drug-free workplace

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of food handling regulations
  • Experience in food service supervision preferred
  • Ability to train and manage teams
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Dependability and flexibility
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Prior institutional or restaurant food service experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members in kitchen during food preparation and service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and team members in food preparation according to menu, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure proper and sanitary food storage
  • Serve food during scheduled meal times following department policies
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food per recipes
  • Follow all food safety regulations for sanitation, handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain clean work area including refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean of food and trash
  • Ensure kitchen readiness for food prep and serving including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • Review proper portion sizes and utensils for service
  • Promote a healthy and safe environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Stand onsite for majority of scheduled shifts
  • Perform related duties as assigned
