Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • at least 18 years of age
  • ability to stand and be on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • dependable and flexible work attitude
  • capable of multitasking and adapting to changes quickly
  • physical ability to perform lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • solid understanding of food handling regulations
  • passion for food and customer service
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • excellent communication and training abilities
  • commitment to maintaining a clean and sanitary food service environment

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food preparation and service shifts
  • prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and team members in the preparation of quality foods according to menus, recipes, and work instructions
  • ensure proper and sanitary storage of all food
  • serve food according to planned meal schedules and department policies
  • utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food in compliance with recipes and nutritional guidelines
  • follow all food safety regulations related to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • train other food service workers
  • maintain cleanliness of work areas and kitchen equipment including refrigerators, freezers, cooking, and serving equipment
  • adhere to facility uniform policy
  • manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean from food and trash
  • ensure the kitchen environment is ready for food preparation and serving, including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing
  • review proper portions and utensils for service
  • promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • perform physical activities such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • perform other related duties as assigned
