Job Requirements

  • Complete 180 hours of internship over 15 weeks for spring or 10 weeks for summer
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution culinary program
  • Must pass a background investigation with favorable results
  • Must complete pre-employment physical
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must meet the minimum age for serving alcoholic beverages
  • Must obtain a Food Handler's Certificate
  • Must work an uncommon tour of duty
  • Must comply with all eligibility and documentation requirements
  • Must be able to provide REAL ID or authorized combination of identity documents
  • Must be registered for Selective Service if male born after December 31, 1959
  • Must complete employment verification (E-Verify)
  • Must meet residency requirements or have installation approval
  • Must satisfactorily meet pre-employment requirements prior to entrance on duty

Job Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution culinary program
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic for counting tables and servings
  • Ability to learn food service sanitation standards and prevent contamination
  • Ability to concentrate despite interruptions
  • Ability to follow established task sequences with minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn to use and maintain food service tools and equipment
  • Ability to learn food service safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand signs, food names, and instructions
  • Understanding of basic food handling techniques
  • Skill to perform routine manual tasks involving few steps
  • Understanding of personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures
  • Ability to read and understand written materials such as schedules, safety sheets, menus, and recipes
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, and walk for long periods
  • Successful completion and favorable adjudication of background investigation (Tier 1)

Job Duties

  • Produces all food products using standardized recipes to support established menus and time schedules
  • Prepares box lunches in support of athletics, airmanship and related cadet programs
  • Provides food service for breakfast, lunch and dinner to the cadet wing, customers, and children under the care of the Child Development and Youth programs
  • Supports special programs such as theme dinners, buffets, banquets, balls, outside catering, and nutritional and health programs
  • Maintains sanitary conditions of food service equipment and dining room before and after each meal
  • Ensures compliance with the U.S. Department of Public Health Food Code
  • Maintains hazard-free environment in compliance with AFOSH
  • Sets up cafeteria lines, food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods
  • Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving
  • Cuts, shreds, slices, and dices fruits, vegetables, and produce
  • Tosses salads and prepares dressing
  • Makes cold sandwiches and packs box lunches
  • Makes coffee, tea, and punches
  • Sets up water stations
  • Properly prepares foods as instructed
  • Cleans assigned areas
  • Returns soiled dishes and trays
  • Operates dishwashing machine
  • Scrapes, soaks, scours, and scrubs cooking utensils
  • Unloads food and beverage deliveries
  • Assists in unloading supply trucks and storing supplies
  • Moves heavy garbage cans
  • Utilizes safety and sanitation practices
  • Uses and assures proper fit of required equipment and clothing
  • Safely uses and maintains tools and equipment
  • Interns assigned to various facilities including Mitchell Hall, Golf Course, Falcon Club, and Bowling Alley
