Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years of experience in food service management including supervision, inventory control, cost management, food preparation, and sanitation
  • or two years experience at lower-level Food Service Specialist Supervisor or equivalent position
  • ability to obtain ServSafe Manager Certification
  • strong communication skills
  • computer literacy
  • ability to work day shift
  • willingness to undergo background and reference checks where applicable

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years of experience managing food service operations including supervision, inventory, cost management, food preparation, and sanitation
  • experience at lower-level Food Service Specialist Supervisor position or equivalent
  • active ServSafe Manager Certification preferred
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • ability to motivate staff
  • knowledge of DPH, ACA, DOE, USDA, DJJ rules and regulations
  • thorough knowledge of large food service equipment
  • experience with National School Meal Programs

Job Duties

  • Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates, disciplines, and discharges employees
  • manages daily HR functions such as Kronos and work schedules including time off requests and ensuring adequate coverage
  • communicates departmental goals, objectives, and plans to subordinates
  • monitors staff adherence to objectives and plans providing feedback and notifying significant variances
  • ensures proper training and ServSafe certification of subordinate staff
  • plans, schedules, prioritizes, and assigns work to food service workers
  • manages daily operation of food service department and acts as liaison between food services and facility and central office
  • maintains Food Safety Management certification
  • completes accurate paperwork for governing agencies daily
  • leads ACA preparation for food service standards
  • ensures food service operation is audit-ready
  • provides corrective action plans and follow through on any audit noncompliance
  • projects and submits supply needs for the fiscal year
  • places weekly orders of raw foods considering inventory, budget and population
  • places orders for USDA commodity foods and DoD produce
  • reviews deliveries for quality and reports issues
  • completes monthly meal count and inventory reporting
  • manages maintenance and replacement of equipment
  • reviews kitchen for sanitation, safety, and compliance
  • provides ongoing education and training to staff
  • trains food service supervisors to supervise operation and complete paperwork
  • demonstrates communication skills
  • ensures compliance with governing policies and standards
