Job Requirements
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Food Service Administration plus one year of paid full-time or equivalent part-time experience in the preparation and cooking of a complete menu of foodstuffs for large scale consumption
- Or graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma plus three years of paid full-time or equivalent part-time experience in the preparation and cooking of a complete menu of foodstuffs for large scale consumption
- Or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug test
- Clearance for employment from the State Education Department before employment begins
- Physical condition commensurate with the lifting demands of the position
- Ability to work morning shifts 5:30am to 2:00pm
- Dependability for daily attendance
- Willingness to perform routine kitchen duties
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Food Service Administration or related field preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of one year paid full-time or equivalent part-time experience in large scale food preparation and cooking preferred
- Three years of experience acceptable in lieu of degree
- Ability to supervise staff effectively
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP regulations
- Basic computer skills for management tasks
- Ability to estimate requirements and prepare orders
- Previous catering experience is a plus
- County Sanitation Certification preferred
- Ability to meet the needs of students with special requirements
- Dependability and strong attendance record
Job Duties
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in preparing, cooking, and serving meals
- Participates in the preparation, cooking, and service of meals
- Catering
- Supervises the preservation and storage of food
- Requisitions food and supplies
- Coordinates and ensures adherence to safety and sanitary procedures in the food preparation area following HACCP regulations
- Supervises and participates in the cleaning and care of kitchen equipment
- Supervises the training of kitchen staff involved in food preparation, cooking, or serving
- Maintains records on inventory, production, and sales
- Maintains time and payroll records
- Plans work schedules
- Oversees Free and Reduced Lunch Program at school
- Understands and operates computerized cash register system, including end of day responsibilities
- Ability to work evening hours when required
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
