Job Description

Arlington County Human Resources is seeking to fill a 1.0 FTE position for a Food Service Manager at the Grade C-08 level, operating on a 183-day work calendar. Arlington County's department works to provide quality public services to its community, including education and food services within its schools, ensuring student health and nutrition throughout the academic year. Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of GED
  • considerable institutional food service experience, including managerial experience
  • Arlington County Food Service Manager Certification
  • knowledge of institutional food preparation and safety procedures
  • ability to supervise and train staff
  • physical ability to move and lift up to 35 pounds
  • ability to work in warm, noisy, and potentially uncomfortable environments
  • adherence to safety precautions to prevent injuries

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or possession of GED
  • considerable institutional food service experience with some managerial experience at Food Service Manager II level
  • Arlington County Food Service Manager Certification
  • ability to organize, supervise, train and evaluate subordinates
  • good knowledge of institutional food preparation procedures and equipment
  • ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups
  • ability to manage food safety and sanitation
  • strong communication and leadership skills

Job Duties

  • Plans and manages the receipt, storage, warming and serving of food delivered daily
  • works with central kitchen management to organize food and supplies deliveries, to resolve problems, and to obtain emergency supplies and assistance
  • plans cost-effective food service program, including ordering, inventory, portioning, and other operational tasks
  • orders supplies via central kitchen or directly from vendors
  • supervises and manages food service, storage and cashiering operations
  • participates in internal and State Department of Health sanitation inspections
  • trains staff, assigns and inspects work, conducts performance evaluations, and takes disciplinary action
  • works with school and community groups to organize food services for special events
  • maintains financial records
