Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily
  • physical and mental capabilities including interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, following directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing, and innovation
  • ability to attend to emergencies and safety meetings
  • capable of lifting and pushing up to 50 pounds
  • ability to manage inventory control and security
  • compliance with USDA and state child nutrition standards
  • willingness to learn cleaning methods, new products, First Aid, and CPR
  • ability to communicate clearly in oral and written forms
  • proficiency in English preferred, Spanish a plus

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • previous experience in food service preferred
  • knowledge of USDA child nutrition program and state department of education requirements
  • ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish preferred
  • skill in operating personal and mainframe computers and software
  • strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • ability to maintain sanitary and safe food service conditions
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to train and evaluate staff

Job Duties

  • Calculates recipe quantities to meet meal needs and reduce waste
  • cleans utensils, equipment, and preparation areas to maintain sanitary conditions
  • directs personnel, student workers, and volunteers, assigning work schedules and supervising duties
  • inspects food items and supplies for order accuracy and health compliance
  • maintains food and supply inventory to ensure adequate meal provision
  • maintains food service equipment for safe operation
  • orders food and supplies to meet nutritional requirements
  • prepares documentation such as employee time cards and safety regulations
  • prepares food and beverage items according to mandated nutrition and meal counts
  • responds to inquiries from staff and families about meal types and costs
  • stocks food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security
  • trains employees and evaluates job performance to achieve child nutrition program success
