Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum two years commercial kitchen experience
  • at least one year supervising kitchen staff
  • SERV Safe certification or ability to achieve upon hiring
  • valid state driver’s license with clean driving record
  • ability to pass background check and drug/alcohol screening
  • physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds
  • willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • alignment with Wheeler Mission’s faith-based culture and policies
  • at least one year of sobriety
  • knowledge of de-escalation techniques
  • proficiency in basic computer software including email, Word, Excel, and Paycom

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years commercial kitchen experience
  • one year kitchen staff supervision experience
  • SERV Safe certification or ability to attain upon hire
  • knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment care and usage
  • understanding of commercial kitchen health and safety standards
  • experience with volunteer management
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office and Paycom
  • alignment with Christian faith and Wheeler Mission values
  • conflict resolution and team leadership skills
  • ability to communicate effectively and delegate tasks
  • capable of conducting performance feedback and staff development

Job Duties

  • Oversees kitchen staff including food preparation and serving
  • works with site staff, volunteers, and guests for meal preparation, serving, and cleanup
  • prepares weekly staffing and shift schedules and approves payroll
  • trains staff in cooking techniques, safety, and equipment usage
  • conducts annual performance reviews
  • ensures staff maintain certifications
  • maintains a safe and clean kitchen environment compliant with health codes
  • reports and addresses kitchen equipment breakdowns
  • manages procurement of cookware and kitchen supplies
  • oversees health department inspections
  • plans menus within budget and nutritional guidelines
  • places food orders and manages inventory
  • adjusts menus based on guest feedback
  • ensures timely meal preparation and service at proper temperature
  • manages and stays within assigned kitchen budget
