Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years commercial kitchen experience
  • At least one year of kitchen staff supervision experience
  • SERV Safe Certification or ability to attain upon hire
  • Ability to walk short distances and ascend/descend stairs
  • Physical dexterity to operate kitchen and office equipment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Strength to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Insurability under Wheeler Mission’s risk management standards
  • Agreement to Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Policies
  • Successful background check
  • Minimum one year sobriety
  • Compliance with Wheeler Mission’s drug and alcohol policy including passing drug testing

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years commercial kitchen experience
  • At least one year of kitchen staff supervision experience
  • SERV Safe Certification or ability to attain upon hire
  • Knowledge of industrial kitchen machine operations and maintenance
  • Understanding of commercial kitchen health and safety standards
  • Experience with volunteer management
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including email, Word, and Excel
  • Basic proficiency with Paycom software
  • Strong conflict resolution and staff development skills
  • Commitment to Christian faith and mission alignment

Job Duties

  • Oversees kitchen staff including food service associates, volunteers, and guests in meal preparation
  • Prepares weekly staffing and shift schedules and manages payroll time approvals
  • Trains kitchen staff on cooking techniques, equipment usage, and health and safety protocols
  • Maintains a safe and clean kitchen environment compliant with state and local health regulations
  • Manages inventory control including placing food orders and maintaining budget limits
  • Plans menus ensuring nutritional balance, seasonal variety, and guest satisfaction
  • Conducts annual staff performance reviews and ensures certifications remain current
