Job Requirements
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Complete a felony disclosure form and submit to a criminal background check
- Successfully complete employee orientation and mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training
- Provide physical residential address and home telephone number
- Comply with all Department policies, procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Submit to drug testing
- Work in a union shop
- Network with State Food Service Managers for collaboration and best practices
- Read and adhere to Food Services Program and Tool Control policies
- Represented position by Washington Federation of State Employees
- Provide valid proof of baseline tuberculosis skin test within 60 days of hire
- Submit foreign degree evaluations if applicable
- Provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Understand potential exposure to oleoresin capsicum and animal care projects
- Adhere to a drug and alcohol-free work environment
Job Qualifications
- Two years of supervisory or lead work experience in large-scale food operations involving meal planning, food procurement, storage, and preparation
- Current food handler's permit
- OR Bachelor's degree with major work in restaurant or hotel management or a related field and current food handler's permit
- OR One year experience as a Cook 3 or Dietician or equivalent with current food handler's permit
- Knowledge of management of large-scale food preparation and services, report preparation, organization, scheduling, inventory methods, and food stores maintenance
- Ability to supervise and train others in cooking and food services, plan nutritious menus considering food preparation limitations, establish cooperative working relationships, and follow instructions
Job Duties
- Manage and provide supervisory direction relating to operational effectiveness of the facility and kitchen
- Inspect kitchen, dining, and food preparation areas to ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and safety
- Maintain the kitchen budget including ordering supplies such as food, chemicals, janitorial items, and equipment
- Comply with Department of Health regulations by monitoring and logging food and refrigerator temperatures
- Prepare meal plans and purchase food products for various menus
- Manage and supervise kitchen staff including conducting performance evaluations, training, scheduling, and leave management
- Participate in food preparation and service ensuring quality standards and safety practices
- Monitor and maintain inventory of knives, tools, and meal count registers
- Perform other duties as assigned
